Department of Defense (DoD)1 holds primary responsibility for defending the U.S. DoD’s numerous military bases and research and administration facilities make it one of the largest landholders in the country, and its Army Corps of Engineers division performs many of the public works duties of the Federal government. Defense Environmental Network and Information Exchange (DENIX) - DENIX is the central platform and information clearinghouse for environment, safety and occupational health (ESOH) news, information, policy, and guidance. Deputy Under Secretary of Defense For Installations and Environment (DUSD(I&E)) -
Strategic Environmental Research and Development Program ( SERDP ) - identifies, develops, and transitions environmental technologies that relate directly to defense mission accomplishment. One of its research areas is conservation which includes: cultural resource management; ecological forecasting; ecosystem res toration and mitigation. Tri-Service Ecological Risk Assessment Workgroup (TSERA-WG) - coordinates and develops uniform technical guidance for the conduct of ecological risk assessments (ERA) at DoD sites worldwide. The Armed Forces Pest Management Board (AFPMB) – Recommends policy, provides guidance, and coordinates the exchange of information on all matters related to pest management throughout the Department. The AFPMB's mission is to ensure that environmentally sound and effective programs are present to prevent pests and disease vectors from adversely affecting DoD operations. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - The Corps builds and maintains infrastructure and public works projects such as dams, levees, reservoirs, channels and canals. The Corps also performs much of the environmental impact and restoration work for the U.S. military.
National Inventory of Dams - Database of over 76,000 dams in the United States and its territories; provides information on size, reservoir capacity and current usage, electricity generation, biological productivity and numerous other categories for each dam. 1. In most case, selecting the "accept certificate" choice in the alert window should allow you to view the public portion of the site. |

The work group also sponsors workshops and other fora to promote understanding of the issues and technologies pertinent to biodiversity and ecosystems informatics. |
