Department of the Treasury oversees monetary functions such as budgets, taxes, and currency production and circulation as well as directing much of the federal government’s economic policy development and international treaty negotiation involving financial issues.

GEF Funding – The Treasury Department manages US contributions to the GEF, which as of 2004 amounted to US$XXXXX.

Debt for Nature Swap – The Department of Treasury is the lead for the agreements under the Tropical Forest Conservation Act (TFCA) , known as ‘Dept for Nature Swap’, which aim to reduce developing countries’ debt in exchange for creating foundations to support forest conservation efforts. As of 2004 7 counties ( Bangladesh , Belize , El Salvador , Jamaica , Panama , Peru , and the Philippines have TFCA agreements.

BioEco Work Group Activities

The BioEco work group meets several times a year to carry out its chartered missions. The work group also sponsors workshops and other fora to promote understanding of the issues and technologies pertinent to biodiversity and ecosystems informatics.
