The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) manages the Tennessee River system, providing electrical power and navigational services to millions of customers. The TVA is the nation’s largest public provider of electricity, operating several hundred hydroelectric facilities, several fossil fuel plants and three nuclear reactors.

Land Management : Controls several hundred thousand acres of wildlife habitat and 11,000 miles of public shoreline in the Tennessee Valley . The division reclaims previously depleted or contaminated land with the goals of improving the area’s habitat and effects on the watershed.

Environmental Reviews : TVA’s repository of environmental assessments of its projects, including the impacts of its dams and power plants on the Tennessee River and its surrounding ecosystems.

Water Quality : Tests and rates the TVA’s reservoirs, streams and rivers to ensure compliance with national and state environmental laws.

BioEco Work Group Activities

The BioEco work group meets several times a year to carry out its chartered missions. The work group also sponsors workshops and other fora to promote understanding of the issues and technologies pertinent to biodiversity and ecosystems informatics.
