Celebrating Wildflowers - Celebrating Wildflowers, a collaborative commemoration between the Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service promotes the importance of conservation and management of native plants and plant habitats and emphasizes the aesthetic, recreational, biological, medicinal, and economic values of wildflowers. Chesapeake Bay Program Office (CBPO) - The Chesapeake Bay Program is a regional partnership amongst the Chesapeake Bay Commission, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Commonwealth of Virginia, District of Columbia, State of Maryland, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies that has led and directed the restoration of the Chesapeake Bay since 1983. Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESU) - Composed of 17 regional units and incorporating diverse federal agencies and academic institutions, the CESUs improve agency coordination, share scarce resources and valuable expertise, and deal with the broad and complex problems associated with resource management while conducting ecosystem-oriented research. Cooperative Research Units Program - Led by the USGS, conducts research on renewable natural resource questions, participates in the education of graduate students destined to join the natural resource profession, provides technical assistance and consultation to parties who have interests in natural resource issues, and provides various forms of continuing education for natural resource professionals. Everglades Restoration Program – A partnership lead by the Department of the Interior with State, other Federal, Tribal and local government partners and numerous stakeholders to restore ecosystems in South Florida , including the Everglades National Park and surrounding wetlands and waterways. Great Lakes National Program – EPA and many Federal, State and Local Stakeholders work together in an integrated, ecosystem approach to protect, maintain, and restore the chemical, biological, and physical integrity of the Great Lakes. Healthy Forests Initiative - Program between the departments of Agriculture and Interior with the intent of reducing the risks severe wildfires pose to people, communities, and the environment. International Cooperative Biodiversity Groups Program (ICBG) - Established by the National Institutes of Health, NSF, and USAID to fund research and training projects on the issues of biodiversity conservation, sustained economic activity, and human health. Also supports infrastructure building to aid in resource management and promotes sustainable economic activity of communities. National Agroforestry Center - A partnership of the Forest Service and the Natural Resources Conservation Service to advance the science and practice of agroforestry in the U.S. and targeted countries through technology exchange, practitioner training in the application of agroforestry technologies, and by developing working partnerships with organizations involved in agroforestry technologies worldwide. National Biological Information Infrastructure – Broad-based collaborative program lead by the USGS together with other federal, state, international, non-government, academic and private industry partners to collect and disseminate biological data using the Internet. National Environmental Monitoring Initiative - Brings together environmental monitoring and research organizations (Agricultural Research Service, Department of Energy, National Park Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Science Foundation, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Geological Survey, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Resources Conservation Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from across the United States) to link large-scale survey information and remote sensing with ecological process research at a network of multi-resource, intensive monitoring areas. National Invasive Species Council (NISC) – Inter-Departmental coordinating body designed to ensure complementary, cost-efficient and effective Federal activities regarding invasive species. Council members include three co-chairs: the secretaries of the Agriculture, Commerce, Interior, and the secretaries of State, Defense, Homeland Security, Treasury, Transportation, Health and Human Services, as well as the Administrators of the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the U.S Trade Representative, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The North American Pollinator Protection Campaign - A regional cooperative of federal agencies, NGOs, academics and interested individuals working to raise awareness and support scientific investigation and projects toward the protection of pollinators. This effort supports the work of the CBD/FAO International Pollinators Initiative. NSF/EPA Partnership for Environmental Research - Some of the research areas funded include:
Plant Conservation Alliance – A
partnership between the Bureau of Land Management, National Biological Survey,
National Park Service, Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement,
United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service,
USDA Forest Service, USDA Soil Conservation Service, and the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service to identify priority conservation needs for native plants
and their habitats and coordinate implementation of programs for addressing
those needs. Plants Database - A standardized list of symbols for vascular and nonvascular plants built by the National Resource Conservation Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management and other agencies. US Coral Reef Task Force (CRTF) – Composed of the Department of the Interior, Department of Commerce (NOAA), EPA, Department of Agriculture, department of Justice, Department of defense, Department of Transportation, NSF, and NASA the CRTF is responsible for developing and implementing coordinated efforts to: map and monitor US coral reefs; research the causes and solutions to coral reef degradation; reduce and mitigate coral reef degradation from pollution, over fishing and other causes; and implement strategies to promote conservation and sustainable use of coral reefs internationally. US Regulatory Agencies Unified Biotech Website - Coordinated, risk-based system developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA-APHIS), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to ensure new biotechnology products are safe for the environment and human and animal health. International Development, the U.S Trade Representative, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. USGS-NPS Vegetation Mapping Program - A cooperative effort by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and the National Park Service (NPS) to classify, describe, and map vegetation communities in more than 270 national park units across the United States. |
